Keeping grout clean after it is clean

Mopping is the reason it got dark in the first place.

  1. 1

A string mop moves dirty water around and leaves it to dry in the grout lines. Use a flat mop with a washable pad and change the pad often.

  2. 2

Rinse after cleaning. Most floor cleaners leave a film that holds the next round of dirt.

  3. 3

Skip the steam mop on grout. Repeated steam erodes cement grout and can break down a sealer.

  4. 4

Seal it, then reseal every two to three years in a kitchen or entry. A sealer is not permanent.

  5. 5

Wipe shower grout down after use. Soap scum and body oil are what feed the discoloration.

If something has gone past the point where this helps, that is what we are for — and if cleaning genuinely will not fix it, we will tell you that instead of selling you a job.
